Description:

The KC-130J platform has experienced issues with operation and sustainment of current cargo winch solutions.  Specifically, winch motor repair occurs more frequently than anticipated along with components and parts becoming difficult to source.  Full motor replacement is also problematic due to lead time and availability of motors in supply.   These challenges have forced the program office to address repairs on a case-by-case basis thus bottle necking a total solution approach to operation and sustainment.

To address the concern and gap, the Government intends to prototype and certify a cargo winch solution that reduces repair frequency, turnaround times, downtime, and obsolescence concerns.  The solution will yield a higher meantime between failure, enhance cargo loading performance, and effectively maintain a sustainment posture that leverages readily available commercial and military components and material.
