Legacy constant wear dry suits for rotary-wing, tiltrotor, and fixed-wing communities create significant thermal burden and reduce mobility in the cockpit, causing aircrew to become overly fatigued and dehydrated. In-flight thermal burden is resulting in squadron commanders allowing aircrew to opt out of wearing them as a risk decision.? There are also reports of seals being compromised in open-water scenarios. Current systems do not provide exposure protection during extended time in water awaiting recovery.
